Wow. Women get hit and/or killed, and 90% are ok with that?

They are reasonable women.

[Quran 4:34]

the result came from a DHS preliminary report for 2007,, its too high,, it would be interesting to see the numbers for 2009, do you think 90% of women justify being beaten by their husbands/ fathers/ brothers?

Jordan should see an influx of Boxers looking for training facilities. Jordanian punching bags seem to give immediate feedback.

I’m all for mab3oos’s suggestion !
tala i think the majority justifies their beatings as their own fault and i think the majority think that they are trying to straighten them up so they think its ok for a women to be beaten, which is different than if you ask if its ok to beat “you”
I think thats why CEDAW is important to us, not only to be enforced, but also to start the discussion on these issues and change the mindsets.

I totally agree, what made me think about it is, what is the percentage of those 90% questioned in survey were actually beaten by their husbands?
to accept the use of violence as means of discipline by unbeaten women is more dangerous than having women who are silent about their beating, accepting it or worse feeling guilty towards male relatives, the later knows by experience that its wrong to be beaten and acknowledge the need for CEDAW, but the former represent the women & mothers who accept the beating of their daughters and encourage men to use violence, why men use violence is another subject.

wow, 90% is an extremely high rate. How accurate is this study? And where was it taken — which areas in Jordan?

Sometimes, the place in Jordan where the survey is taken matters. Are these women, in this area, in Jordan, mostly educated?

What is their age range? Did the survey go to teens? Adults? Because sometimes, some girls simply parrot what they hear around, which, doesn’t make for ‘reliable’ survey results, u see?

In a country that’s predominantly Muslim, it gets tricky when one deals with misinterpreted ‘religious’ beliefs. Sometimes, it’s really hard to convince people that this religion does not teach such behavior between a man and his wife.

You’d be blamed of blasphemy! yikes :) or westernization!

but, never give up!
